How we build this

Every mosque here comes from OpenStreetMap, the open geographic database maintained by a global community of volunteers, under the Open Database License. We enrich it with community submissions and never scrape Google Maps, apps, or other directories.

Daily prayer times are calculated from each mosque’s coordinates using the ISNA method, the standard for North America. They are careful estimates, not a replacement for confirming Jummah and iqama times with the mosque directly.

Questions and answers

How do you find the nearest mosque?

Search your city or use the browse-by-state pages to find mosques near you. Each listing shows the address, a map, and calculated daily prayer times. MosqueIndex covers mosques and masjids across the United States, sourced from OpenStreetMap and community submissions.

Are the prayer times on MosqueIndex accurate?

The daily prayer times are calculated from each mosque’s coordinates using the ISNA method (Fajr and Isha at 15 degrees, standard Asr), the standard method for North America. They are reliable estimates for planning and typically match other calculators within a minute or two. Jummah and iqama times are set by each mosque, so always confirm those directly with the mosque.

Why don’t you show the Jummah (Friday prayer) time for every mosque?

Jummah and iqama times are decided locally by each mosque and change with the season, so they cannot be calculated. We show community-submitted Jummah times where we have them, marked with a note to confirm with the mosque, and leave the rest blank rather than guess.

Where does the mosque data come from?

Listings are seeded from OpenStreetMap under the Open Database License (ODbL) and enriched with community submissions. We never scrape Google Maps, apps, or other directories. Full details are on our methodology page.

How do I add a mosque that is missing?

Use the "Add a mosque" page to submit a mosque we do not list yet, or to correct details on an existing one. Submissions go to a review queue and are published after a quick check.

Is MosqueIndex free to use?

Yes. Browsing mosques, prayer times, and directions is free and always will be. Mosques are non-profit community institutions, and the core directory is free for them and for visitors.

What is the difference between a mosque and a masjid?

They mean the same place of worship. "Masjid" is the Arabic word and "mosque" is its English equivalent. This directory uses both terms, and a small prayer space is sometimes called a musalla.

Does MosqueIndex have an app?

No app is needed. MosqueIndex is a fast website that works in any browser on your phone or computer, so you can look up a mosque and its prayer times without installing anything.
